Introduction Tobacco use throughout the United States has become an epidemic, not only among adults, but among adolescents as well. People do not realize the effects of tobacco or the consequence of using tobacco among the youth and adolescents. What are the leading factors of adolescents using tobacco? Do peers and parents have an influence on tobacco use among adolescents? Throughout this paper I will discuss the effects of tobacco use, the statistics of tobacco use among adolescents, and other influences of tobacco use among adolescents. Definition of Core Concepts In this paper I will focus mainly on the question of, do peers and parents have an influence on tobacco use among adolescents? The production of Bonsack’s machine could produce about 120,000 cigarettes a day (healthliteracy.org). This was the moment when cigarette smoking became a widespread epidemic and has increased throughout the years. Importance of Issue Effects of Tobacco Use â€Å"Tobacco use remains the single largest preventable cause of death and disease in the United States (cdc.gov).† We cannot push this topic to the side and think it will change soon. This topic needs to be addressed now.
